A HORRIFIC RECURRING NIGHTMARE IS THREATENING TO STEAL HER SANITY…
Dr. Corinne Cabot is living the American dream. She’s a successful ER physician in Chicago who’s married to a handsome husband. Together they live in a charming house in the suburbs. But appearances can be deceiving—and what no one can see is Corinne’s dark past. Troubling gaps in her memory mean she recalls little about a haunting event in her life years ago that changed everything.
She remembers only being in the house the night two people were found murdered. Her father was there, too. Now her father is in prison; she hasn’t been in contact in years. Repressing that terrifying memory has caused Corinne moments of paranoia and panic. Sometimes she thinks she sees things that aren’t there, hears words that haven’t been spoken. Or have they? She fears she may be losing her mind, unable to determine what’s real and what’s not.
So when she senses her husband’s growing distance, she thinks she’s imagining things. She writes her suspicions off to fatigue, overwork, anything to explain what she can’t accept—that her life really isn’t what it seems.

AB: What’s a day in the life of Courtney Evan Tate look like?
Courtney: Well, it always starts with coffee. J Then I take my daughter to high school and plant my butt in my office chair. I always have a set word-count, and I don’t allow myself to get up until I hit it. Evenings involve wine.
Do you have any writing quirks and what is/are they?
Courtney: Not really—I just have to write in the quiet. I can’t have music or crowds chattering around.
When you’re not writing what do you love to do?
Courtney: I love to walk on the beach in the evening, and smell the ocean air. I love to swim, but not near buoys because I’m terrified of them.
You’ve been incredibly successful in the New and Young Adult genre(s). With that said, what prompted you to try out the world of dark psychological suspense?
Courtney: I feel as though my voice has changed a little. It’s more mature now, and I think of more mature storylines. So I’m venturing out into Women’s Fiction and Psych Thrillers to accommodate that change.
Why did you decide to use a pseudonym for your new book Such Dark Things?
Courtney: Since I’m doing Women’s Fiction too now, my publishers wanted me to use a separate name for Psych Thriller to help my readers keep things straight. Lol.
Such Dark Things looks really interesting (now on my TBR List!). Can you tell us more about your book?
Courtney: It’s about dark things… things in life that happen and no one wants to talk about. Infidelity. Lies. Tempting situations. Succumbing to that temptation, and the fall-out that occurs afterward.
What was your biggest challenge writing this novel?
Courtney: It hit close to home, and so emotionally speaking, it was hard at times. But I felt it was a story that needed told.
What question do you wish someone would ask about you or your book but nobody has (then answer it 🙂 )?
Courtney: Hmmmm. What a good question! Maybe… is it really possible to overcome an affair?
The answer is: I believe so. If both partners are willing, and the one who cheated puts in a lot of work to make his/her spouse feel safe and secure, and to rebuilt trust.
AB: Thank you Courtney for swinging by!
